Vulgo

Carlito Carvalhosa

Selected to represent Brazil at the 11th Havana Biennial in 2012, São Paulo artist, Carlito Carvalhosa, presented “Vulgo”, an installation piece for the entrance of the Gran Teatro de La Habana, the main exhibition space of the event. The installation was accompanied by a musical intervention by Cuban pianist and composer Juan Piñera.
A similar work, “A Soma dos Dias”, had already been exhibited in 2011 at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo and at the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art of New York). Its Cuban version was produced in partnership with the ICCo, contacted by the artist after receiving the invitation from the biennial to occupy the space. This was the first of many partnerships between the ICCo and biennials around the world, bringing works by artists like Carlito Carvalhosa to other countries.
